Electronics of an Active Implant

Cisteo and Tame-Care are combining their expertise in active implants

As part of the Major Project of Common European Interest (PIIEC) – TECH4CURE, Cisteo MEDICAL is supporting Tame-Care in the development of innovative technology building blocks for active implantable medical devices (AIMDs).

This collaboration brings together the expertise of Cisteo MEDICAL, a leader in the design, development, and industrialization of medical devices, and Tame-Care, a specialist in electronic technologies for active medical devices.

The goal is to provide manufacturers with reliable, scalable technological solutions that comply with regulatory requirements in order to accelerate the development of next-generation implants.

Technological barriers to be overcome

Active implantable medical devices must meet particularly stringent requirements.
Among the main challenges are:

  • ensure a sustainable energy supply without increasing the number of surgical procedures;
  • to provide long-term protection for the embedded electronics;
  • ensure the biocompatibility of materials;
  • ensure the long-term watertightness of the systems;
  • prepare for industrial-scale production that complies with regulatory requirements.

The TECH4CURE project addresses these challenges by developing new technological building blocks.

The technology building blocks developed

  • Transcutaneous Energy Transfer

Development of a wireless power transfer system to reliably and safely power an implant.

The work aims to optimize performance, minimize overheating, and ensure a continuous power supply, while meeting the requirements for implantable medical devices.

  • Encapsulation of Implantable Devices

Development of encapsulation solutions that ensure protection of the electronics, biocompatibility, long-term waterproofing, and compatibility with transcutaneous energy transfer.

The goal is to ensure the reliability, durability, and performance of the implantable device in a physiological environment.

Complementarity in the Service of Medtech

The project draws on the complementary expertise of Cisteo MEDICAL and Tame-Care to provide an integrated solution covering the entire development process for implantable medical devices.

  • Cisteo MEDICAL contributes its expertise in medical device design, product architecture, development, materials engineering, industrialization, risk management, and regulatory strategy.
  • Tame-Care brings its expertise in medical electronics, power transmission, implantable technologies, electronic integration, and manufacturing.

This complementary approach enables us to support manufacturers from the earliest stages of innovation through to the preparation for industrialization, taking into account technical, industrial, and regulatory considerations.
